Full-time participation in the AU internship program provides qualified students from a wide range of disciplines with access to professional development opportunities at the university.

Internship Program at the African Union Commission: a Preview of What to Expect.

The purpose of the program is to help participants develop as individuals and as professionals by providing them with early exposure to AU operations. It’s a great opportunity for students to broaden their horizons and develop their skills in a multicultural setting with real-world applications.

In general, interns help out in the following Departments/Directories of the African Union by providing administrative and technical support for the effective implementation of the programs, projects, and activities of the African Union:

  • Environment, Sustainable Development, Agriculture, and Rural Areas (ARBE).
  • Growth of the Economy, Commerce, Manufacturing, and Mining (ETIM).
  • Innovating in the Fields of Education, Science, and Technology (ESTI).
  • Infrastructural and Energy Systems (IE).
  • Politics, War, and Security (PAPS).
  • Wellness, Charity, and Progress in Society (HHS).
  • Management of Human Resources (HRM).
  • Services to Back Up Operations.
  • Data Management and Analysis Section.
  • Business Process Management (ERP).
  • Management of Conference Content and Publications (CMP).
  • Department of Security and Safety.
  • Citizenry and Exile (CIDO).
  • Healthcare and Medicine.
  • Department of Financial Control.
  • Department of Tactics and Execution.

Requirements for Eligibility.

Applicants to the Internship Program at the African Union Commission (AUC) must satisfy the following requirements:

  • All applicants need to be citizens of a country in the African Union.
  • Applicants must either be in the final year of their Bachelor’s degree program OR have completed their third year of study.
  • Ideally, you’ll have a Master’s degree or higher in your field of study, but a Bachelor’s degree is also acceptable.
  • Be in your last year of college or graduate school and able to devote full time to your studies.
  • Speak one of the official languages of the African Union (Arabic, English, French, or Portuguese).
  • Must be under the age of thirty-two (32) when chosen.
  • Integrity and moral rectitude are qualities you possess in abundance.
  • Possess no criminal record (major or minor, including traffic violations).
  • The internships do not require any prior work experience.

Important Abilities

  • Knowledgeable in using computers to their full potential (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Able to communicate effectively via electronic means,
  • Possessing excellent people skills.
  • Possessing strong verbal and written communication skills is a must.
  • French, English, Portuguese, Arabic, Spanish, and Kiswahili are the official languages of the African Union (AU), and knowing another language or languages of the AU is a plus.

  • Being able to express oneself clearly and concisely in writing.
  • Put in your best effort.
  • Capacity to get along with people from different cultural backgrounds.
